Mitochondria

Mitochondria is a decentral and smale-scale based energy model, with well developed opportunities for user participation, innovation and a stepped transition to a smart grid.

Idea

The energy transition is happening on different scales; the individual scale, the national scale and a scale level in-between. This in-between level is often the target for societal debate on the energy transition, as it has large consequences on the direct living environment of many people. This model, Mitochondria, is developed to visualize the impact of the energy transition, and actively control its consequences. Central to this energy model are small-scale energy factories, that corresponding to cell biology, are called Mitochondria. This are the nodes of a new energy infrastructure, the smart-grid, where all possible techniques of energy production and storage can take place. The Mitochondria model aims of making every region energy-neutral.
